“Sleep is that golden chain that ties health and our bodies together.” -Thomas Dekker
At one point or another, most of us have experienced sleep deprivation – cramming for exams, a new baby, and several parties back to back are all inducements to forego a good night’s sleep. However, the adverse health effects of not getting proper rest in the long-term demand we do everything in our power to get both enough and quality sleep. One of the ways to improve both sleep quality and quantity is to make some smart home upgrades. Here are a few tips for sleeping better with a smart home system:
- Smart Thermostat. According to the National Sleep Foundation, the ideal bedroom temperature for quality sleep is between 60 and 67 degrees Fahrenheit. With the use of a smart thermostat that is automatic or voice-activated, it will be easy to adjust the temperature accordingly. Automated is ideal, as it can also start changing the temperature before you awaken, so you won’t dread slipping out from under the covers.
- Smart Lighting. There is nothing worse than getting comfortable and drifting off only to realize you have to get back up to shut off a light. Equally disruptive is needing to turn on a harsh light to find your way to the bathroom in the middle of the night. With smart home lighting, you can set lights to come on and shut off at whatever lighting level you desire, ideally by movement activation.
- Smart Security. Ever wake up from a sound sleep worrying about whether you locked the door or if there is something amiss in your home? With smart house security, you can sleep comfortably knowing your family is well-protected.
- Smart Alarms. Ever wonder why everyone hates alarm clocks yet nearly everyone uses them? They should have been banished decades ago – or never invented in the first place. Consider how much nicer it would be to awaken to your blinds going up and letting sunlight pour in or your stereo turning on and slowly increasing in volume, gently bringing you to consciousness.
